India beat England by D/L method (Leading 3-0)

Chasing a victory target of 241 runs, India were 198/5 in 40 overs when play was called off due to bad light. According to the D/L method, India needed to be 183/5 after 40 overs.

India started their run chase on a confident note with openers Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag stitching a 31-run partnership.

Andrew Flintoff got England the first breakthrough when he dismissed Gambhir (14), who walked down the pitch and edged to third man for Stuart Broad to take the catch.

India lost the second wicket soon after when Suresh Raina (1) looked to drive away from his body and edged a Broad delivery onto his stumps much to the delight of the English.

Flintoff took his second wicket when Sehwag cut to backward point where Paul Collingwood jumped and plucked ball from thin air. That happened so quickly that even Collingwood had a look of disbelief on his face.

Sehwag hit eight fours and a six in his controlled knock of 68 that came off 76 balls.

Sehwag reached his 31st half-century with a six over long on off Greame Swann and along with Rohit Sharma steadied the Indian innings who rattled a bit after losing two quick wickets.

India lost Rohit soon after Sehwag's fifty when he tried to cut a Swann delivery but edged it to wicket keeper Matt Prior. Rohit hit 3 fours in his knock of 28.

Flintoff took his third wicket when he dismissed Yuvraj Singh to reduce India to 177/5 in 36 overs.

Yuvraj mistimed a pull shot to deep square leg for Broad to take the catch and end his 52-run partnership with his captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Yuvraj hit 2 fours and a six in his 31-ball 38.

Dhoni (29) and Yusuf Pathan (12) remained unbeaten denying the English any more breakthroughs and also kept India ahead according to the D/L method.

Harbhajan became the sixth Indian to take 200 wickets in ODI cricket as England did not last the full 49 overs leaving India with a victory target of 241 runs to win in 49 overs at 4.92 runs per over.

Indian pacers Ishant Sharma, Zaheer Khan and Munaf Patel took the last four England wickets with Ishant dismissing Samit Patel (26) and Matt Prior (5) off successive deliveries.

Zaheer then dismissed Stuart Broad for a duck in the over before Patel clean bowled James Anderson (1) to put an end to England's stuttering innings.

Harbhajan Singh claimed his 200th ODI wicket by dismissing Owais Shah to reduce England to 204/6 in 44 overs. He had Shah (40) caught at long off by Zaheer.

Yusuf Pathan dismissed all-rounder Andrew Flintoff (26) who moved across his stumps trying to work the ball to the leg side but missed a flat and straight delivery by Pathan to dent the England innings further.

That was soon after Yuvraj Singh drew Ravi Bopara forward by a flighted delivery, that dipped into him and then turned away beating the England opener who was out of his crease and was stumped by Indian captain and wicket keeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Bopara hit eight fours in his knock of 60 that came off 82 balls.

Harbhajan rattled England by taking two wickets in two overs. He dismissed both Paul Collingwood (1) and England captain and batting mainstay Kevin Pietersen by the doosra to stun England who are already 2-0 down in the series.

Collingwood was beaten in the flight and also by the turn as he was drawn forward but missed the ball and was stumped by Dhoni. In his previous over, Pietersen charged down the pitch and looked to hit to long on, but edged the doosra to long-off for Zaheer to take the catch. Pietersen hit a six off Yuvraj in his knock of 14 runs that came off 16 balls.

Munaf Patel got India the first breakthrough dismissing Ian Bell to put England at 80/1 in 15 overs. Bell, who hit 8 splendid fours in his 47-ball 46, looked to cut a delivery but edged it to Dhoni for the catch.

The new opening pair of Bopara and Bell gave England a steady start hitting 50 runs in 11 overs. Bell was the aggressor of the openers after Pietersen won the toss and elected to bat first in the match, which had a delayed start due to hazy conditions and was reduced to 49 overs.

Green Park has been a pacer friendly venue with pacers claiming 86 wickets and spinners taking 43 wickets in all the matches played.

The batting Powerplay has been reduced by one over as it is a 49-over game. The break-up is Powerplay 1: 10 overs, Powerplay 2 by the bowling side: 5 overs, Powerplay 3 by the batting side: 4 overs.
